Notable Things about Sydney

We woke up on Tuesday morning expecting to go to the beach but the air quality was at a 12. It was considered hazardous. This was due to the bush fires in North Sydney. We thought it was due to the volcano eruption that happened in New Zealand but it wasn’t due to that. It is summer time here and it should be hotter than it really is but some experts believe the fires and the air quality has something to do with then climate change.

Here are some things that I’ve noticed so far:

Seasons in One Day - We have walked or used public transit the entire time we were here. Lately we’ve used transit because the things we’ve done this last week have been too far to walk. During our walks, we have encountered several seasons within the same day or sometimes in that hour. We’ve gone from a nice warm day to a very windy and jacket wearing kind of cold wind, to a fall like feel all within an hour. So when we leave the house, we start off with shorts and flip flops but make sure to bring a sweater or a light jacket in our backpacks

Food Delivery on Bicycles - about 90% of the food delivery services we have seen all use bicycles to get food to you. There are food delivery services here equivalent to our Uber Eats or Door Dash and they all use bikes. Even places like Dominoes pizza deliver via bicycle.

Bats - Bats fly around here like regular birds. Its a trip to actually see a flock of bats flying overhead. They come out around 6p and invade the skies

Everything Goes Left - as you know, in America, we ride on the right, pass on the right (in car or in person), we lock doors by turning the lock switch to the right. Well here in AUS, all of the above happens on the left. Passing people on the street to the left, locking the door by turning the lever to the left. The good thing here when crossing the street is that there are signs on the ground at the cross walk that tells you which way to look for cars. There is a median down each road here so it helps to know which way the car is coming from. Naturally as an American, when crossing a street we look to the left first and if thats clear we look to the right and proceed. Well here, you would look to the right first because the car is coming in from the left side of the road so looking to the right is where to look first.

Here are just some shots of some of the thing I took pics of. The Exit signs is a man running out the door and the bathrooms are called toilets. It’s weird to say for me become I feel like it’s rude to say haha. But a toilet is a toilet!
